When I work, I don’t start with an idea or a plan. I pick my materials to work on, make a mark or paint a figure and continue until I feel the piece is done. It’s then that I can see aspects of my life coming forward – the character falling down, a rabbit with a boxing glove, a coffee cup symbolizing emotional states, situations, or conflicts. Things I think we all experience in our day-to-day lives.

This show, entitled “a cloud floats in / a ship passes by” continues a through-line in my work – a conscious effort to pay attention to how I go through life, how I see the world around me, and what is happening in that world. This show represents this effort to see.
